PMES Foundation

The Pickett's Mill Elementary School Foundation (PMESF) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, established in 2009, dedicated to providing enhanced educational opportunities that otherwise would not be a part of the Pickett's Mill Elementary School instructional program.  Educational opportunities like the STEM lab and it's full time instructor as well as character building programs like "Leader in Me" and "7 Habits," can only be funded through Foundation efforts.

We are organized exclusively for providing resources beyond the scope of traditionally supported programs.  Those programs are not provided by Cobb County School District or the PTA and benefit ALL of our Pickett's Mill students.  Thanks to the tireless work of Foundation board members and generous donations from parents, PMES students receive curriculum, programs and access educational resources above and beyond the standard in Cobb County Schools.

STEM EDUCATION at Pickett's Mill

At Pickett's Mill Elementary, our mission is to lay the foundation for success.  Today's students are tomorrow's leaders.   It is evident that the jobs of tomorrow are rooted in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields.  Occupations in STEM -related careers are some the fastest growing and best paid of the 21st century and  have the greatest potential for job growth. As America strives to keep up with the current and projected demand for STEM output, it is important that our next generation is competitive.

Through YOUR generous donations to the PMES Foundation every year, we are able to fund a full time STEM teacher salary, provide a fully functioning STEM curriculum and STEM lab, and ensure every student at our school has access to this important curriculum once a week. By giving our  students  early access to the tools they'll need to succeed in these competitive fields, they will enter the job market prepared and on the leading edge of  their peers. Whether they become scientists, doctors, engineers or software developers - the PMES Foundation is dedicated to inspiring students and providing them with the tools they need to succeed.

Research initiatives predict that over the next decade, 80% of new U.S. jobs will require STEM skills. Early education in these fields is absolutely key to building the next generation of innovative thinkers the global job market will demand.

Proud Lighthouse School Recipient Since 2013

Pickett's Mill Elementary School subscribes to the Leader in Me 7 Habits program to use as its learning and discipline model.  This derives from Stephen Covey's book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People that first introduces the concept of paradigm shift and helps people understand that different perspectives exist, i.e. that two people can see the same thing and yet differ with each other. The PMES Foundation has been providing this valuable character building curriculum to all students since 2009.

In February 2013, Pickett's Mill became the first school in Cobb County to achieve "Lighthouse School" status for it's implementation of the 7 Habits Program and the subsequent positive impact on staff, students, parents and the community. PMES is one of only 157 esteemed "Lighthouse Schools" worldwide.
